The Gastronomic Essence of Andalusia

There are no less than 16 definitions for the word tapa in the Diccionario de la Lengua Española (Dictionary of the Spanish Language), including some Americanisms. Right in the middle, the eighth one defines the tapa as “a small portion of food served with a drink.” It’s a meaning very similar to that of the sixth entry, the Mexican term “botana:” “Appetizer, food that normally accompanies drinks.”
